The Pirelli calendar, usually a coveted piece of art featuring sexy models clad at most in diminutive underwear, is getting a socially aware makeover for 2016. Far from the fetish theme commanded for 2015 by former Vogue Paris Editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld and photographer Steven Meisel featuring stunning pictures of top models such as Joan Smalls, Gigi Hadid and Adriana Lima donning leather and vinyl ensembles, the new edition will feature some of the currently most relevant women of the business and entertainment industries.

Emmy recipient Amy Schumer, writer/actress Tavi Gevinson (that pixie cut tho), icons Patti Smith and Yoko Ono, outstanding athlete Serena Williams, top model Natalia Vodianova, artist Shirin Neshat, social media star Yao Chen, author Fran Lebowitz, Selma director Ava DuVernay, art expert Agnes Gund, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and businesswoman extraordinaire Mellody Hobson round-up a cast as bold as it is inspiring.

But don't expect to see them writhing naked: in a ballsy departure from the tradition, the 2016 Pirelli Calendar will be a collection of classic portraits, as explained by photographer Annie Leibovitz:

I started to think about the roles that women play, women who have achieved something. I wanted to make a classic set of portraits. I thought that the women should look strong but natural, and I decided to keep it a very simple exercise of shooting in the studio.

We. are. loving. it.

The full Pirelli calendar will be unveiled in November, but as usual, don't expect to get your hands on one if you're not 1) eBay-savvy 2) ready to shill out a good chunk of cash.
